M87-17 Underwater Listening Devices – Macquarie Harbour

Mariners are advised the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies is to establish underwater listening stations in Macquarie Harbour. This will require the placement of 53 individual underwater listening devices on the sea floor. Units in depths greater than 10 m will be marked with a sub-surface buoy approximately 3 m off the sea floor. Units in depths less than 10 m will be marked with a sub-surface buoy approximately 1 m off the sea floor. The receivers will be in place from July 2017 until July 2019. Mariners navigating these areas in deep draught vessels and those wishing to conduct subsurface activities during this period are advised to do so with caution.
