Southport Jetty Completed

The new Southport Jetty is now complete. After completing the concrete structure in late-April, Tasmanian Marine Construction (TMC) recently finished installing the jetty accessories including ladders, kerbs, fender panels, bollards and lighting. A tsunami warning system has also been installed by TMC on behalf of the Bureau of Meteorology. The new jetty can cater for vessels up to 60 tonne displacement whilst the lower landing that has been included will aid trailer boats and tenders when embarking and disembarking passengers. As the facility is constructed from concrete on steel piles, it is envisaged that its life span will be long and maintenance during this life span will be minimal, compared to materials that are traditionally used for jetty construction. The entire construction has taken in excess of six months, but due to the progressive nature of the rebuild, inconvenience to jetty users has been kept to a minimum. Marine and Safety Tasmania would like to thank jetty users for their patience and for adhering to safety directions from the contractors during the construction period.
