Macquarie Heads (Strahan) Jetty Update

MAST, in consultation with Crown Land Services and the West Coast Council, have finalised plans for the replacement jetty at the Macquarie Heads (Strahan) camping ground boat ramp.

The design, which can be viewed below and is also on display at the camping ground caretaker’s cottage, shows a timber framed and fiberglass decked structure similar in dimensions to the previous jetty. The design also complies with the Building Code of 2000 and the relevant Australian Standards. As with the old jetty, the new one will be constructed on the western side of the boat ramp.

To progress the project, selected contractors were recently invited to submit a tender to build the jetty, with local Strahan building firm Back in a Flash Constructions being the successful tenderer.

Work is planned to commence shortly with the jetty completed in time for the opening of the 2009/2010 rock lobster season. It is not anticipated there will be any disruption to the boat ramp while work is in progress, however all ramp users are asked to comply with any direction given by the contractor during this period.

When completed, ownership of the new jetty will become the responsibility of the West Coast Council.
