CURRENT PROJECTS

Brid River Wharf

Reconstruction of a 63 metre section of the Brid River Wharf is now underway. Tas Marine Construction has started work driving the steel piles which will support pre-cast concrete panels which will form the wharf face. A total of 21 piles will be driven into the river bed over the next few weeks. Once pile driving is complete then demolition of the existing timber structure will take place. The project will then include dredging of the river adjacent to the wharf face and then installation of the precast panels. The area behind the new precast wharf face will consist of compacted fill with a concrete and bitumen deck over the top. The reconstruction is planned to be completed during August.

Brid River Wharf Update - 24 August 2009

All of the wharf face has now been installed. Around 9.5 metres behind the wharf face a large concrete footing has been poured which is connected to the piles via the steel bars that you can see in the first photo. Concrete will now be poured in the voids between the precast panels and the piles. Then the area behind the wharf face will be filled and compacted where access allows. Where access is hard due to the steel bars, a hydraulic vibrating plate on an excavator will get in between the bars to vibrate/compact the fill prior to asphalting. The second photo shows the first of the timber fenders being fastened to the wharf face.
