Boaters can access up-to-date boating weather forecasts for the cost of a local call (excluding country areas) via the new Marine and Safety Tasmania Telephone Boating Weather Service.
Forecasts for various regions have been grouped under a specific phone number for that area and include coastal waters and Central Plateau and South-West lakes forecasts. The service is updated three times daily following the issuing of forecasts by the Bureau of Meteorology at 5.00 am, 11.00 am and 4.00 pm.

Iron Pot and Arthurs Lake Weathernow Service
MAST and local company Datacall have recently installed a new weather stations at the Iron Pot at the mouth of the River Derwent and Arthurs Lake in the Central Highlands. The services are a very useful tool for boaters when planning their boating trips or checking the weather whilst out on the water.
The service provides current weather observations from the site, most importantly wind direction and speed, including the maximum wind gust as well as air temperature and barometric pressure.
However, boaters should remember that the information supplied is not a weather forecast, but observations of current weather conditions.
Observations from both sites are available by sending an SMS message on your mobile phone with the text “wn” to the relevant phone number below. Shortly after sending this message, a reply will be sent to your phone with the information included.
