Certificates of Competency

A Certificate of Competency entitles a person to act as Master, Engineer or Coxswain on a commercial vessel.

To be eligible for a Certificate of Competency a person needs to meet minimum sea service requirements, undertake the required training and meet the minimum eyesight and medical standards.

A Certificate of Competency is required to operate a commercial vessel under the National System.
